ELYRIA — A man was hospitalized Tuesday after he was hit by a motor vehicle on West River Road North near Applebee’s.
Juan Torres Jr., 43, of Elyria, was crossing the street when he was struck by an adult woman driving a blue Ford Fiesta.
Torres was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center and a nursing supervisor said he was later transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino said Torres died around 8 p.m. at the hospital.

Costantino said police are looking into the incident.
“This is still a very active investigation,” he said. “There’s a lot of pieces for us to sort out. What we need is for people who saw the accident to call in and give us any information they have.”
An officer in charge didn’t have any additional information Tuesday evening but said police are hoping someone comes forward with additional information.
