LORAIN – Police arrested a Lorain man Thursday after he interfered with their attempts to arrest another man on a warrant at a Beech Avenue residence.
Montell Johnson, 37, was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business and having weapons under disability.
Lorain Police Capt. Roger Watkins said police saw Christopher Chapman who was wanted on a warrant and he ran into Johnson’s home in the 2100 block of Beech Avenue.
Police tried to run after Chapman and Johnson tried to stop them and physically interfered with officers, Watkins said.
Police arrested Johnson and found an assault rifle and two handguns inside Johnson’s home.
“Police seized those because Montell Johnson is a convicted felon,” Watkins said.
There was a female in the house also, Watkins said, and police didn’t know if Chapman was inside or had made it out. They tried calling Chapman out and got no response, Watkins said, and they weren’t sure if the female was inside against her will.
The SWAT team was called along with negotiators who tried to talk Chapman out of the house, Watkins said, but upon entering he was nowhere to be found.
No shots were fired during the incident although around the same time police were calling Chapman out about 10 shots were fired in another location unrelated to the events on Beech Avenue, Watkins said.
Chapman was not found and there is still a warrant out for his arrest, Watkins said.
