ELYRIA — U.S. Marshals arrested a Cleveland homicide suspect Thursday night after receiving information that led them to stop a vehicle on state Route 57.

Andre Bello, 19, of Cleveland, was taken into custody by federal marshals after they pulled over a vehicle on a felon traffic stop with the assistance of Elyria police, said Anne Murphy, a U.S. deputy marshal in Cleveland.

Murphy declined to say how marshals came by the information that led to the traffic stop and arrest of Bello on a homicide warrant issued by Cleveland police.

Bello was being sought in connection with a May 28 homicide that occurred in the 8700 block of Kenmore Avenue in Cleveland, according to Murphy.

No other details on the murder or Bello’s connection to it were available from the Marshals Service.

Calls and emailed requests to a Cleveland police spokeswoman for more information on the case went unanswered Friday.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office also indicated it had no information on the case nor would it until the investigation was bound over to a county grand jury for consideration of charges, according to spokesman Joe Frolik.

Bello was a passenger in a car that was stopped by marshals on southbound state Route 57 at the Ohio Turnpike overpass, according to Murphy.

Marshals contacted Elyria police for assistance in the traffic stop, Murphy said.

Bello was the only person taken into custody, she said.

“He complied instantly” with authorities after they pulled the vehicle over, Murphy said. “There were no issues of any kind.”

Bello was not armed, Murphy said.

Bello was transported to Cleveland City Jail.
