ELYRIA – Two dogs were quarantined after attacking a woman and her puppy in a residential neighborhood Sunday evening.

Vaughn Sprinkle, 25, was cited for failure to display dog tags or animal registration and dogs at large after his dogs broke through a fence and charged at the woman, her daughters and the puppy. According to the report, Sprinkle’s dogs didn’t have current registration or rabies shots and he was ordered to quarantine the dogs for 10 days.

The attack occurred in the 800 block of Hollywood Drive Sunday around 8:47 p.m. and a man told responding police his girlfriend, Diana Wingo, was attacked by two dogs.

Police later identified the dogs as male and female Cane Corso Italian Mastiff’s named Jax and Nala, both of which are owned by Sprinkle.

Jax and Nala attacked Wingo’s Golden Doodle puppy named Reddening, according to the report, and Wingo was severely bitten in the hand and face as she tried to pick Reddening up.

Wingo was walking with her two daughters and Reddening, and the attack occurred after Jax and Nala busted through a wooden fence in Sprinkle’s backyard and charged at the group, police said.

Wingo was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center and Reddening was taken to a local animal hospital. Wingo was later taken to University Hospitals in Cleveland due to the severity of her dog bites, the report said.
