LAGRANGE — A Sullivan man who died in a crash Wednesday night was involved in another crash about 20 minutes before the one that killed him, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Kip McGraw, 41, of Sullivan, was driving west on Kipton-Nickel Plate Road about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. He was going around a curve when he drove off the right side of the road. McGraw hit a road sign, a ditch and a tree.
According to troopers, McGraw wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car. McGraw was pronounced dead at the scene. McGraw’s dog was in the car, too, and also died at the scene.
Troopers said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but they will not know for sure until lab results come back.
Troopers said McGraw hit a car that was stopped at a stop sign on Parsons Road at 9:26 p.m. Wednesday. McGraw was driving south on Kipton-Nickel Plate Diagonal Road when he allegedly went off the right side of the road and hit the car, troopers said.
He left the scene after the accident, troopers said.
The person driving the other car in that crash received minor injuries but did not go to the hospital, troopers said.
Troopers said they are still investigating the second crash. They have yet to determine how fast McGraw was traveling or whether there were other factors.
